Saying of the Legend:

Bo-Yi and Shu-Qi were the sons of Mo Tai-chu, King of Guzhu Kingdom during Shang era. Before their father died, the father willed that Shu-Qi should inherit the throne. By the time the father was really dead, Shu-Qi let his elder brother Bo-Yi took the throne.  But Bo-Yi said: "Father's orders cannot be violated." and would resolutely not accept the throne. Later both brothers abandoned the throne, and sought refuge with King Zhou Wenwang.  During the time, Zhou Wuwang led armies to attack King Zou, both brothers knelt down in front of his horse pleading to stop the war against King Zou but their petition was not adopted. After Yan Shang Kingdom was defeated and ended, both brothers retreated into the Yang Mountain. They refused to eat fruits of Zhou, and only picked leaves for eating. They died by starvation in ShouYang Mountain later. Both brothers despised the scholarly honor or official rank and the integrity they had for defending morality and justice was held in esteem by later generations.
