Birthday of
Qing Xi Xian You Bo Zhu

(清溪显佑伯主)

The Birthday of the main Deity, Qing Xi Xian You Bo Zhu (Sheng Hong Deity 清溪显佑伯主) falls on the 28th Day of the 5th Lunar month.

The celebrations at the Temple generally include a trip to Sheng Hong Temple in Anxi, China to offer prayers.  This will be followed by the 7th Month Festival event. The celebrations usually last over three months.  This is a grand event with religious elements, cultural exchanges, Taoist practices, opera performances, variety shows, charity donations etc.

Since the Temple’s redevelopment in the 1990s, the number of days of opera performances has been increased from 33 days in 1991 to 109 days in 1998.  Since 1998, it has been a tradition to organize opera performances for more than 100 consecutive days.  Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple is well known in Southeast Asia for the high number of consecutive days of opera performances at the Temple.  The Temple has invited opera troupes from China, Taiwan, West Malaysia and local Hokkien and Teochew troupes to perform at the Temple.  The elderly devotees and their families have encouraging feedback for this event.  Showtimes are usually in the afternoon at 2pm and in the evening at 8pm.

The prayer rituals at the Temple are led by Taoist Priests from Zheng Yi Group (正一派) Hun Yuan Dao Tan (混元道坛) as well as our Resident Priest Master Huang Xin Cheng (黄信成).  Taoist Priests from the Hun Yuan Dao Tan will conduct the prayer for an entire day, while Master Huang Xin Cheng will lead the Scripture Chanting Group and the Taoist Orchestra to conduct prayers in the evening at 8pm in the main hall of the Temple.  At 11pm on the 27th Day of the 5th Lunar month, an altar for Jade Emperor will be installed at the Temple front hall where prayers to seek permission from the Deities to host the celebrations and to invite the Jade Emperor to join in the celebration will be held.  On the 2nd day of the celebration, prayers will be conducted from 9am to 1pm.  Devotees will also be present to offer their prayers.  They will be blessed with the prayer offerings.  At 4pm, there will be a ceremony to send off Jade Emperor, followed by the burning of incense papers at the Jade Emperor altar.  There will be another prayer ritual at 5pm, and thereafter offering items will be distributed to volunteers and devotees to bless them with peace and fortune.
