Taoist Scripture Chanting Group
The Taoist Scripture Chanting Group was formed in 1995 under the guidance of Master Priest Huang Xin Zhi from the Taoist Quan Zhen Group. Taoist lessons conducted by Master Priest Huang were held at the Temple premises since 2 April 1996. The classes were held twice a week on every Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Scripture Chanting Group offers prayers during the Temple’s major events and at the funeral wake of a member of the Association. The first batch of 40 students received their certificates at the Temple’s Mid-Autumn Festival after attending the 6-month course. In October 1997, Master Priest Lv Xin Rui led the scripture chanting group and conducted lessons for the second batch of students. The group’s outstanding performance was commended at the Temple’s 80th Anniversary Celebrations held from in 1997.
In 2000, Master Priest Huang Xin Cheng took over the leadership of the group and a Taoist Orchestra Troupe was included. Chinese orchestra instruments such as erhu, yangqin, guzheng and flute were provided for the first batch of 40 students. Students attended the practical and theory classes under the guidance of experienced instructors. Today, the troupe will perform during temple’s celebrations, in Singapore as well as overseas.
