MEMORABLE MOMENTS FOR CENTURY CELEBRATION OF LORONG KOO CHYE SHENG HONG TEMPLE

Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple had existed for 100 years and it celebrated its century anniversary with a series of commemorative events from 22 September 2017 to 2 October 2017.

The Sheng Hong City God Deity arrived in Singapore by sea in 1917 from Anxi, China.  The Deity has since been worshipped in Singapore and has been consecrated at Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple.  The Temple has been a vibrant place of worship for many devotees and the devotees are increasing. Today, the Temple is a renowned organization with several associates and all have been involved in many welfare activities to reach out and to serve the community.

The statue of Sheng Hong City God Deity from Anxi, China arrived in Singapore to join in the Century celebration hosted by Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple on this day, at 3.50pm.  More than 200 devotees and representatives from China, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore gathered at the Changi Airport to receive and welcome the Deity.  Over at the Temple compound, Nan Sien Dragon and Lion Troupe and many other performing troupes from various provinces of Taiwan, Wu Dang Martial Arts Institution from China and many Taoist Organisations form part of the contingent and assembled along Arumugam Road to welcome the Deity from Anxi.  At around 6.18pm, both Sheng Hong City God Deities from Anxi and the host, Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple reached the Temple premises by sedan chairs.  In the evening at 7pm, our resident Priest, Mr Huang Xin Cheng chanted a prayer and both Deities were placed at the Main Hall of the Temple for worship by devotees.PHOTOS

On the 4th day of Lunar 8th month, Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple hosted an elaborate traditional meal to honor the Deities worshipped in the Temple, as part of the event to signify the commencement of the Century celebration.  The delicacies were displayed at the 3-meter long table placed in the Temple’s Main Hall, in front of the Deities.  Hand carved fruits by craftsmen from Taiwan and snacks were also displayed at the table as offerings to honor the Deities.

On the same evening at 7pm, Guest-of-Honour Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Prime Minister’s Office officiated the commencement ceremony of the Century Celebration at the built-in theatre in front of the Temple.   Many distinguished guests, including Leaders from renowned Temple Associations, Taoists Associates from China, Hong Kong, Macau, France, Malaysia, Philippine, Taiwan, Thailand, Korea and local associates joined us in this event.  An audience of about 1,300 people, including local and overseas performers joined us in this grand celebration.  During this event, 2 books were launched to commemorate this auspicious event.  One of the books covered the historical events of Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple while the other book recorded the renaissance of 24 senior Management Committee Members and staff serving in this Association.PHOTOS

On the 5th day of Lunar 8th Month, Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple organized a street procession for Deities as part of the Century celebration to bless the participated organisations.  About 2,000 performers from both local and overseas institutions formed part of the contingent for the one kilometer street procession.  The programme for the procession lasted for about 10 hours.

At 9am, the contingent for the street procession departed from the Temple to the designated venue.  Both Sheng Hong City God Deities led the procession.  Places of visit included Loyang Tau Pek Kong Temple, Singapore Taoist San Qing Gong, Pandan Valley Sheng Hong Temple and other organisations.  Performing items include Nan Sien Lion and Dragon Dance Troupe, Zhong Lian 8 Warriors Troupe, Tou Mu Temple in Butterworth and Teochew Drum from Johor Baru, West Malaysia and Wudang Martial Arts Troupe from China also joined in the celebration.   We have a 300-member delegation from Taiwan, led by Mr NoNo, President of Taiwan Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe who put up excellent performances.  The troupe had prepared its programme 6 months before the actual performance in our Temple.  Apart from the performing troupes, there were also 6 decorated floats to lead the procession.  During the procession, the colourful floats and the huge contingent had attracted many devotees and passers-by.

In the evening at 8.30pm, all the performing troupes returned to the temple.  Nan Sieng Dragon and Lion Troupe had performed with its Guinness Record Dragon and Lion Dance to signify the end of the street procession.  At 11pm, performers carried the Sedan Chairs for devotees to join in the ever first launch event of going under the sedan chair of both Deities, to pray for good blessings.PHOTOS

On the 6th day of the Lunar 8th month, our Association prepared a grand Taichi Night  at the theatre for devotees and participants.  Sheng Hong Scripture Chanting Group and Taoist Orchestra, led by master priest, Mr Huang and Zhang Zi Liang from Central Music Institution, China. Their performances depicted the Troupe Members’ gratitude to Sheng Hong City God Deity for the blessings.   The Taichi performances led by master instructors from our Associate, Wu Dang Sheng Hong Health Preservation Centre and Taoist Wu Dang Taichi Institute from China also performed on stage.  The Wu Dang Sheng Hong Health Preservation Centre comprises of 4,000 members from all races in Singapore.  This programme was exclusively performed by the Taichi members, whom they have practiced diligently over the past years.  Apart from these programmes, counterparts from China Taoist Association, Shanghai Temple, Anxi Temple, France Taoist Association, Saudi Arabia Taoist Association, South Korea Jin Xian Association, Taiwan Kaohsiung Taoist Institution, Institutions from several provinces in China, Hong Kong also presented their mementos on stage to the host Temple, as a token of appreciation for the invite.PHOTOS

On the 7th day of Lunar 8th month, the Association hosted a grand event, known as “100th Anniversary Celebration cum Inter-Faith & Racial Harmony Dinner” graced by Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security,  Mr Teo Chee Hean.  Invitation was extended to several distinguished guests overseas and the local associates.  The venue for the dinner was intended at the open space in front of the Temple so as to enable devotees and guests to immerse in the spirit of this grand century celebration and to receive the blessings from Sheng Hong City God Deities.   The theme song of the Temple “Anxi Sheng Hong City God Famed Over A Thousand Miles”sang by Ms Yuan Jing was launched on stage, and many in the audience also join to sing this theme song, to extend their appreciation and respect to the Deities worshipped at the Temple.  At the Dinner, Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple Association made donations of $50,000/- each to “We Care Fund” and “OnePeople Fund” as a form of community serve to benefit the needy in Singapore.PHOTOS

27 – 29.9.2018

3 days of grand variety shows were hosted during the nights in the Temple premises for devotees and the public to join us in this celebration.  The variety shows were hosted by renowned masters of ceremony and thousands of audience enjoyed the songs and dances performed on stage by local and foreign artistes.  On the final day on 29.7.2017, prominent foreign artistes from Taiwan, Mr NoNo, Wen Li You, Qiao You, Zhu Hai Jun, Zhang Xiu Qing, Chen Sui Yi, etc hosted the grand variety show, held in an air-conditioned theatre and it was attended by an audience of 5,000 devotees and their family members.927   928   929

27 – 30.9.2017

On the 8th to 11th day of Lunar 8th month, the Long Fu Shan Si Han Tan Shi Fu Taoist Institution from China hosted a grand and formal Taoist Initiation Ceremony in recognition of Taoists practitioner who wishes to pursue an in-depth understanding of Taoism.  On the evening of 28.9.2017, our resident priest led devotees to cross the “Blessing Bridge” to receive blessings from the Deities worshipped in the Temple.927 928 929 930

On the 12th day of Lunar 8th month, the Long Fu Shan Si Han Tan Shi Fu Taoist Institution officiate the Initiation Ceremony, endowed certificates to the Taoist practitioners.  A total of 134 practitioners participated in this formal ceremony.PHOTOS

On the 13th day of Lunar 8th month, the Association hosted another grand meal to send off Sheng Hong City God from Anxi.  The displayed table was filled with delicacies, placed as offerings to the Deity.  The 3 Lions from the Lion and Dance Troupe once again put up a grand performance in extending their appreciation to the Sheng Hong City God Deity from Anxi, China for his presence in our celebration.  Priest Mr Huang led the Management Committee of Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple Association to pray sincerely to the Deity for his blessings for the past years and they also prayed for continued blessings in the years ahead from the Deity. During the noon time, delegation from the Temple send-off Sheng Hong City God Deity to the Changi International Airport for departure by flight, MF852 to Anxi, China.  This marked the end of the 10-day celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Sheng Hong City God Deity worshipped at Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple.  It was a memorable occasion for this century celebration and all devotees look forward for continued blessings from the Sheng Hong City God Deities.PHOTOS
