Society of Sheng Hong Welfare Services
Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple (LKCSH Temple) has focused on education and various community services since the early 50s and 60s. In 1956, villager Mr Tan Kim San raised funds to redevelop the Temple and a stage to host traditional operas organized during the annual birthday celebration of Qing Xi Xian You Bo Zhu (City God) on the 28th day of 5th Lunar month. Apart from this, the stage was used as a classroom for Chiau Nan School to conduct lesson for the children.
In the 50s, the Temple formed a Vigilant Group to help the villagers, especially during a fire disaster. A Welfare Group was also formed to serve the needy residents in the village.
In 1992, Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple Association (LKCSHT Association) started welfare projects such as distribution of red packets (红包) to the elderly and needy families and scholarship/bursary awards to students from Chiau Nan School. Members of the Temple and the Brightness Blessing Lamp (光明灯 Guan Ming Deng) could also apply for Academic Merit Awards for their children. During Lunar New Year festive season, LKCSHT Association also distributed red packets to the elderly residents of Aljunied Constituency. The Association also donated a sum of $8,000/- to the Aljunied Constituency Education and Welfare Fund for the constituency’s welfare projects.

In 1994, LKCSHT Association was officially registered with the Registry of Charities. Since then, the Association became more involved in charity works.
